Our computational group is interested in understanding the role of chromosomal instability, somatic copy number alterations (SCNA) and chromatin structure in cancer evolution. We develop and apply algorithms for inferring and simulating cancer evolution and for haplotype reconstruction and phasing in close collaboration with our clinical and experimental partners. We are part of several national and international consortia, including the ICGC-ARGO and TRACERx consortia. Part of our group is also based at the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD) at the TU Berlin. Regular visits to our partner site for scientific exchange are planned.
Your tasks
You will develop the next generation of pipelines and algorithms for cancer genomics for our group and as part of some of the largest national and international cancer consortia including the ICGCARGO and SATURN3 projects. You will provide research support to the group and help develop and maintain the group’s pipelines, software tools and algorithms. The position offers ample opportunities for contributing your own scientific ideas and for developing and extending your own research profile. You will work closely with an interdisciplinary and collaborative group of bioinformaticians, clinicians, and experimentalists, to develop new methods with strong translational potential.
Your profile
Ideal candidates will have a Masters or PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Physics, Computer Science or related fields and a strong background in quantitative genomics research and software development. Prior experience in cancer genomics is a plus. Successful candidates should be enthusiastic about working in a highly interdisciplinary environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team are required.
