Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) is an application-oriented research institute in the fields of high-frequency electronics, photonics and quantum physics. It researches electronic and optical components, modules and systems based on compound semiconductors. These devices are key enablers that address the needs of today’s society in fields like communications, energy, health, and mobility. It covers the entire value chain from design to ready-for-delivery systems.

For the Joint Lab Integrated Quantum Sensors, which is working on the miniaturization and integration of compact, field-ready quantum sensors, we are looking for a research staff member.

(Reference number 10/23)

Your activities

Your work will focus on the design and characterization of miniaturized optical systems with micro-actuators for trapping and manipulating atomic gases. Special focus will be on robustness and suitability for use in a UHV environment. You will develop and qualify the required components and technologies for micro-integration together with the team. This includes design work, simulations and the robot-assisted integration of the optical system. A laboratory with modern equipment is available for this purpose.

Your profile

You have completed a scientific university degree (master's/diploma) in physics, physical engineering, technical optics, microsystems technology or a related natural science or engineering course of study.

You are enthusiastic about physical-technical topics with direct application relevance. Ideally, you have relevant knowledge in one or more of the following areas

  • packaging and interconnection technology
  • optical systems
  • vacuum technology
  • additive manufacturing

Experience in the development and production of integrated optical systems as well as knowledge in the design of opto-mechanical assemblies is desirable.

Practical skills and enthusiasm for details as well as the willingness to maintain a careful working method are required.

The ability to work in a team, a committed and independent approach to work as well as good knowledge of the English language complete your profile.

Our offer

We offer a challenging and interdisciplinary activity. The work is carried out in close cooperation with national partners from academia and industry. You can expect a collegial atmosphere, a family-friendly environment and an extensive technical infrastructure in several clean rooms as well as assembly and measurement laboratories.

Employment, remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the public sector (TVöD Bund). The position can be filled immediately and is initially limited to two years.

FBH is an equal-opportunity employer and actively supports the compatibility of family and career. Particular attention is paid to gender equality. The Institute strives to increase the proportion of women in this area. Female candidates are encouraged to apply. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to handicapped candidates.
