Scientific Coordinator of the Graduate School HDS-LEE (part-time)

Your Job:

The coordination of the HDS-LEE Graduate School is based at the Institute of Bio- and Geosciences - Biotechnology (IBG-1) at Forschungszentrum Jülich and is managed jointly with another coordinator.

In this responsible position as Scientific Coordinator, you will work in direct contact with the doctoral researchers, scientists and professors of the Graduate School. You will contribute to the education of the next generation of data scientists and cutting-edge research for a digital future. You support the HDS-LEE Steering Committee in creating the appropriate framework conditions for doctoral training and the further development of data science.

Your work in the coordination of the Graduate School HDS-LEE includes the following tasks:

  • Contact person for all matters concerning the HDS-LEE Graduate School
  • Support and coordination of doctoral researchers, as well as recruiting and career development in close cooperation with our central human resources department and existing processes
  • Planning, organization and implementation of the HDS-LEE graduate school curriculum
  • Organization and implementation of HDS-LEE events and networking opportunities
  • Supporting the HDS-LEE Steering Committee in the execution of its tasks, including participation in the planning, preparation and follow-up of HDS-LEE committee meetings
  • Monitoring the scientific, technical and structural development of the graduate school
  • Reporting and documenting the results of HDS-LEE
  • Support in the preparation and implementation of scientific reviews
  • Coordination and handling of administrative processes
  • Subject-oriented design of public relations and science communication, in particular the website, in coordination with the Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy (HIDA)
  • Maintaining contact with HIDA and the other Helmholtz Data Science Graduate Schools
  • Alumni work to maintain relationships with former members

Your Profile:

  • Master`s degree or diploma preferably in a natural or engineering science, ideally with subsequent PhD degree
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Resilience, engagement and empathy
  • Organizational skills, communication and teamwork skills
  • Ideally previous experience in science or study program management
  • Openness to new approaches and a willingness to continuously search for improved solutions
  • Knowledge of the use of (especially digital) management tools (project planning, word processing, scheduling, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of scientific communication and effective public communication of research results, especially in interdisciplinary research areas
  • Experience in the design of presentation materials and websites
  • Very good written and oral communication skills in German and English
  • Enjoy working in an interdisciplinary, science-oriented environment at the interface between science, administration, politics and business

We offer you an exciting and varied role in an international and interdisciplinary working environment. The position is for a fixed term of 2 years, with possible long-term prospects. Salary and social benefits will conform to the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund), pay group 13, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks assigned to them.
