The successful applicant will cover research and teaching in the field of microeconomics.

Appointment requirements are governed by Section 100 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz – BerIHG).

Successful candidates must have an excellent record of research activities in the area of microeconomics as demonstrated by their publication in leading international professional journals. They will have a research focus in the area of applied microeconomic theory and

their research should also complement current research areas in the Department of Economics and within the Berlin University Alliance. Applicants are asked to submit a concept paper with their application, showing how they meet this requirement. Candidates should have a background of successful, preferably international academic teaching at the university level and also have experience in acquiring and leading externally funded research projects. Candidates should have the ability to teach courses in English and ideally have a good level of German language proficiency.

Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Section 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities:

The successful applicant will assume responsibilities in research and teaching in the field of microeconomics from a theoretical and application-oriented perspective. Additionally, we expect the new professor to publish their research in highly ranked, internationally recognized professional journals. They will be expected to actively participate in supervising and further developing the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in economics at Freie Universität Berlin and to actively contribute to doctoral-level training and education within the Berlin School of Economics. They will be expected to acquire and assist in designing and managing externally funded, interdisciplinary research projects, research groups, and partnership projects. The new professor should also be prepared to fill any gaps in their knowledge of German within three years so that by that time they can teach courses in German, and will also be expected to address gender and diversity issues in their research and teaching.
