Starting at the earliest convenience our Department Data Services for the Social Sciences (DSS), Team Metadata Standards and Interoperability located in Cologne, is looking for a

Researcher with PhD – da|ra and Metadata

(Salary group 13 TV-L, working time 100 %, initially limited to 4 years with possible tenure)

The department Data Services for the Social Sciences (DSS)  offers sustainable infrastructures and services for data management, curation, and long-term preservation. Its mission is to foster FAIR data, open science, and reproducible research in the quantitative and computational social sciences. This includes archiving services with different curation levels for individual researchers, projects, and institutions, providing access to archived data, including access to sensitive data, the data registration agency da|ra, and data management trainings.


Your tasks will be:
  • Service coordination of da|ra-DOI registration agency , including management of customer relations and task coordination, internally and with partners
  • Planning and design of further development of da|ra
  • Coordination of GESIS and DSS metadata workflows, including tools for input, publication, etc.
  • Introduction of new DSS-services for users (data API, virtual lab books) in collaboration with other GESIS units
  • Conducting own research on structured data, Research Data Management, Open Science, Knowledge Graph, Semantic Web

Your profile:
  • D. in library information science, information science, social science, computer science or equivalent
  • Interest and experience with structured data, open science, FAIR data, data documentation, and data linking
  • Data science skills
  • Proficiency in English with excellent skills, both written and spoken and willingness to learn German
  • Ability to handle metadata when linking different types of data (e.g., surveys, digital behavioral data) preferably in social sciences
