The Leibniz-Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) aims for excellence in horticultural research and related plant, environmental, nutritional and social sciences. IGZ is based in Großbeeren close to Berlin and is a member of the Leibniz Association (WGL). IGZ conducts strategic and international research for the sustainable production and use of vegetables, contributing to food security, human well-being and the conservation of natural resources. At IGZ, researchers from different disciplines work together on core-funded and grant-funded projects, in collaboration with national and international research partners.

To undertake the research in this project, we are looking for a

Researcher (f/m/d)

Innovation Centre for Wild Plant Cultivation in the Lausitz region

Reference Number: 17/2021/4

The salary will be based on qualification and research experience according to the wage agreement TV-L, salary domain east, up to EG 13,25% of the regular working time.

Employment will be available as soon as possible and will be initially until 30. September 2024.

The scientist will work within the project „Etablierung eines Anbau- und Verwertungssystems von gebietsheimischen und klimaangepassten Wildpflanzen mit hoher Wertschöpfung in der Lausitz (InnoWild)“. The project aims to identify novel bioactive ingredients in native wild plants and to contribute to new cultivation and utilization systems. The aim of the joint project, which is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, is also to establish a transfer centre for wild plants (Innovation Centre for Wild Plant Cultivation) in the Lausitz region, which will act as a demonstrator to ensure the transfer of knowledge and will be used as a central point of contact for further training with regard to wild plant utilization in the Lausitz region. In addition to the IGZ, partners of the project are Nagola Re GmbH and the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU).

Tasks include

  • conception, realization and evaluation of surveys
  • conception of a cultivation and utilization network based on wild plants
  • creation and maintenance of a digital platform for knowledge transfer
  • communication with partners from industry and science
  • coordination of joint activities with different external partners
  • planning and implementation of information events
  • publication activities and presentation of results at conferences

We are looking for

  • a Master (MSc) or diploma degree in in agricultural sciences, natural sciences or comparable qualification
  • experience in the cultivation of wild plants and basic knowledge of the utilization of plant constituents from wild plants
  • experience with event planning and communication with stakeholders
  • knowledge of regional stakeholders/company structures in the field of cultivation, processing of plant raw materials, SMEs, etc. is desired
  • proficient use of office applications
  • experience in knowledge transfer and science management
  • independent and autonomous working style
  • high degree of responsibility, accuracy and ability to concentrate
  • ability to work in a team and very good communication skills in German and English
