The Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön is an internationally oriented institution whose research focuses on the principles, mechanisms and effects of evolutionary change. Around 180 employees from more than 30 nations currently work at our institute in the departments of Theoretical Biology and Microbial Population Biology, as well as in a number of independent research groups.
We are looking for a new member of staff to join our institute as a Research Software Engineer (m/f/d) for part-time support (19.5 hours /week) in the implementation of the work plan of the NFDI4BIOIMAGE consortium .
The position
- develop a knowledge base with Linked Open Data and Semantic Web technologies,
- develop plugins for the electronic laboratory book "OpenBIS" and the image database "OMERO" as open source software,
- create work and progress reports in the consortium.
Your profile
As a graduate of a university or university of applied sciences in bioinformatics, computer science, information technology or similar disciplines, you have in-depth knowledge of programming, software architecture and user interface design. The development of software in a scientific context in at least two programming languages (Python, Java, C/C++, R or Julia) is your strength, as is working with relational and NoSQL databases. You are enthusiastic about open source software.
Experience in the field of Linked Open Data and Semantic Web round off your profile. Documenting and presenting your results in English is a natural part of your day-to-day work. You prefer to work in an agile team of scientists, technicians and developers with flat hierarchies and a dynamic distribution of tasks and roles.
