Job description:The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam – GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national centre for geosphere research. As a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres we are part of the largest scientific organization in Germany. For Section 1.1 “Space Geodetic Techniques” we invite applications for a:

To support our expertise in orbit determination of Low Earth Orbiters we are looking for a motivated research scientist. The position combines implementation tasks regarding advanced orbit modeling and investigations focusing on combined ground and space-based GNSS observations. 


Your responsibilities:
  • Implementation of LEO POD capabilities in the GNSS processing software EPOS.P8
  • Assessment of advanced LEO orbit modeling and investigations on the achievable orbit accuracy
  • Combined processing of GNSS ground networks and different LEOs and assessment of the impact on geodetic parameters (e.g., geocenter, terrestrial scale) and offset determination (especially transmitter phase centers)

Your qualifications:
  • Scientific university education and doctorate in geodesy or related disciplines (e.g., mathematics, physics, informatics) 
  • Experience in GNSS data processing 
  • Experience in developing scientific program packages, knowledge in Unix/Linux-based operating system environments and script programming are an advantage
  • Very good command of written and spoken English
  • High motivation and personal responsibility

Start date: As soon as possible
Fixed-term: 18 months
Salary: The position is classed as salary group 13 according to “TVöD Bund (Tarifgebiet Ost)”. The salary group is determined on the basis of the Collective Wage Agreement and the respective personal qualifications.
Working hours: Full-time (currently 39 h/week); The position is generally suitable for part-time work.
Place of work: Potsdam
