The Institute for Astrophysics Göttingen (IAG) at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen invites applications for the position of

Research Scientist (f/m/d)

in the fields of solar and stellar physics, within the group of Laurent Gizon. The position is for a nominal duration of two years, including a six-month probation period. Regular working hours will be 39.8 hours per week (salary level TV-L 13). The start date is expected to be 1 October 2021.

Your duties
• Perform research. The main task will be to study the contributions of convection and the magnetic field to solar/stellar photometric and spectral line variability.
• Contribute to teaching activities as defined in Section 31 of the Higher Education Act of Lower Saxony (NHG) and to the organization of examinations.

Your profile
• MSc/Diploma degree in physics
• A doctoral degree in physics or astrophysics.
• A proven track record of scientific achievements.
• The ability to work in a team.
• An excellent command of the English language.
• The ideal candidate will have experience modelling solar/stellar brightness variability and/or analyzing stellar/solar photometric data.
