The Chair of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Real-Time Systems at the Technical University of Munich is looking for a research associate (m/f/d) for intuitive programming of robot systems.

About us

The Chair of Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Real-Time Systems (Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Alois Knoll) at the TUM School of Computation, Information and Technology (CIT) does research in the area of intuitive programming of industrial robot systems and the cooperation between humans and robots. In contrast to classical industrial robots used in large-scale production, there is much more focus on ease of use in small lot production. In order to ensure economical usage, even users without expert knowledge in robotics must be able to operate complex robot systems within a very short time. Depending on the application domain and application, different operating concepts are suitable, which ultimately must be transformed into executable instructions. How to handle uncertainties in unstructured environments and the transfer of knowledge between different domains and processes are important topics as well.

Responsibilities

Your tasks include the modeling of domain- and application-specific knowledge of the scenarios in the project as well as the hardware and software resources of a distributed robot system and their abstract capabilities. Based on an intuitive task description from the user, an automatic planning of adaptive action sequences is performed that is then executed on the target system. The implementation is based on industrial scenarios with a mobile robot system suitable for human-robot interaction.

Job requirements

You can be part of this exciting, future-oriented project if you are a computer scientist with the following qualifications:

  • Completed university studies (Master including thesis) in the field of computer science
  • Experience in Semantic Web technologies
  • Experience in the modeling of knowledge using ontologies (e.g., Protégé)
  • Skills in programming distributed systems (e.g., ROS, OPC UA)
  • Participation in project meetings and preparation of project reports in English language
  • Innovative thinking skills with visionary ability, sustainability in pursuing goals
  • Ability to work in a team and coordination skills to argue and implement new approaches
  • Very good knowledge in programming with C++/Java

What we offer
  • Remuneration of group 13 TV-L Bavaria, based on education and experience level
  • The position is initially limited to one year with an option to extend for two additional years
  • Be part of an interdisciplinary and multicultural team and take on responsible tasks
  • The opportunity to pursue a PhD within the Graduate School at one of Europe's leading universities of excellence
  • Funding available for foreign research trips and various consulting and mentoring services
  • Working in the greater Munich area with a variety of attractive leisure and cultural activities in close proximity to the Alpine region
  • A welcoming environment for new ideas and creativity
