Research Associate – Information & Citation Extraction

(Salary group 13 TV-L, working time 100 %, limited to 24 months)

The department Knowledge Technologies for Social Sciences (WTS) conducts research at the intersection of information retrieval, knowledge graphs, human information interaction and machine learning as foundation for innovative web portals and platforms for the search and use of research data. WTS innovations are based on a state-of-the-art software stack and research-based innovations in the aforementioned fields.

OUTCITE (Reference Understanding in the Social Sciences), WTS researches and develops innovative services with the goal to extract, categorize and match citation data from PDF files and integrate the data in the research infrastructure of GESIS.

Your tasks will be:

  • Applied research in fields such as information extraction, Natural Language Processing, cluster representation/disambiguation or entity resolution, specifically in the context of bibliographic resources
  • Development of a sustainable strategy to improve search and findability of our research data
  • Implementation of information extraction, representation and linking approaches with appropriate Web/Java technologies (e.g. applying named entity recognition, automated linking of data with web vocabularies)
  • Contributing to the standardization and enrichment of dataset metadata in continuous exchange with the OUTCITE project team
  • Publication of project results

Your profile:

  • University or doctoral degree in Computer Science or related fields
  • Research interests in data search, data & information retrieval, knowledge graphs or human information interaction
  • Expertise in web standards, (web) information retrieval, disambiguation, deduplication, interest in data representation and data findability
  • Experience in software development with Java, Web- and XML-technologies, database and search engine technologies
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, basic knowledge of the German language desirable.
