The research group of Prof. Yaping Shao at the Institute for Geophysics and Meteorology, University of Cologne, focuses on atmospheric modeling ( ). The group currently focuses of regional/global climate modelling and parameterization of the earth and atmospheric physical processes and participates in several major research projects,


  • Support scientific research in atmospheric modeling
  • carry out the own research and assist the fellow members of the research team
  • work also includes dust-cycle modeling and continental hydrological modeling
  • Support the teaching and administrative activities of Prof. Dr. Shao


  • a PhD in meteorology, mathematics or another natural scientific department
  • Knowledge in computational modeling are encouraged to apply
  • Experience in scientific programming is essential
  • good knowledge of the German and English language (written and spoken)

The position is available from the 01.09.2021 on a full-time basis. It is limited for 3 years with possibility of extension for two years. If the applicant meets the relevant wage requirements and personal qualifications, the salary is based on remuneration group 13 TV-L of the pay scale for the German public sector.
