Project description:

The position is part of the collaborative BMBF project “DataNord” that aims at establishing an interdisciplinary data competence center for the Bremen region. In DataNord, members of the U Bremen Research Alliance – the cooperative network of the University of Bremen and twelve non-university research institutes – work together with other regional institutions. The DataNord team will consist of 15 people who are distributed among the partner institutions and will work closely together. The position advertised here is part of one of five research projects of the "DataNord Research Academy" and will be carried out in close collaboration with the the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI), the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) and the University of Bremen.

As part of the DataNord Research Academy, the "Healthy Planet" sub-project will use available satellite data as well as GIS data to monitor environmental conditions and their complex effects on health and health behavior. The project also aims to develop and refine methods for the precise mapping and processing of geospatial and satellite data.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. environmental science, public health, epidemiology, geoinformatics) with in-depth knowledge of environmental health, epidemiology or related disciplines.
  • Experience in data processing, particularly with regard to environmental and remote sensing data, (e.g. Sentinel-2, MODIS und Sentinel-5P) and motivation to get involved in environmental epidemiological research.
  • Experience in using statistical programs (such as SAS, R, STATA) and statistical analysis is desirable.
  • Knowledge of common software solutions and the willingness to expand them (including Office, R, GIS, Python, literature management programs etc.).
  • Experience in academic publishing is an advantage.
  • Very good English and German language skills

Tasks:

  • Analysis of spatial, environmental and satellite data related to health endpoints.
  • Preparation of scientific contributions (publications, reports to the project sponsor and lectures).
  • Participation in the acquisition of third-party funded projects.
