The advertised position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (usually a PhD).

Are you looking for an exciting and ambitious doctoral project? Are you interested in heterogeneous catalysis, instrument automation, or alternative fuels? Then apply to join our team and help us investigate the catalytic reforming of zero-carbon feedstocks!

You will join an ambitious collaborative research project, focused on developing working prototypes for zero-carbon combustion. The project combines aspects of heterogeneous catalysis, additive manufacturing, and combustion science. Your project will be based in the ConCat Lab (https://www.tu.berlin/en/concat ), which is part of the Centre for Advanced Ceramic Materials at TU Berlin (https://www.tu.berlin/ceramics ).

Your tasks will include:

  • Development, automation, and validation of the catalytic testing set-up
  • Characterisation and catalytic testing of active materials
  • Collaborative development of formulations compatible with additive manufacturing
  • Supplementing your investigations via microkinetic modelling

We will support you in pursuing your doctorate. Therefore, you will be expected to write publications, present at conferences, and work independently. Willingness to travel to project partners in London and Stuttgart is desirable. The position is funded for 3 years, and comes with a further budget for international travel.

  • Ability and desire to work independently
  • Programming skills, preferably in Python (links to portfolios appreciated)
  • Relevant skills and experience transferrable to any of the following research areas: chemical reactor design, instrument automation, heterogeneous catalysis, or combustion research
  • Good communication skills in English, knowledge of German is a plus

Desirable:

  • Experience in collaborative projects
  • Knowledge of good software practices, including working with version control software, continuous integration, and unit testing, is a plus
