Research Assistent / PostDoc - Science Support and Administration in EU-project RIANA

Your Job:

Industrial and scientific partners with high specialization in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology often do not employ the full breadth of techniques to obtain the optimal output for their research. RIANA connects a wide range of European methodological scientists and provides openly support and conduction of experiments within all partners. JCNS is specialized on (neutron) scattering experiments and aims at directing projects to the best neutron instruments within the League of European Neutron Sources (LENS). For this task we need you as a specialist who can bring high level science to world leading instruments. Your tasks in detail:

  • Participation in scientific projects at MLZ
  • Join experiments of current projects and get trained in neutron scattering
  • Work closely with RIANA core team to support networking between all RIANA partners and European neutron sources (LENS)
  • Interact with other physics-related RIANA partners to make synergies operable
  • Present the consortium and networking groups at workshops, conferences, in the public
  • Present research results at scientific meetings, conferences and as scientific papers
  • Support the different RIANA working groups in terms of information, organization, cooperation and project management

Your Profile:

  • Master and/or PhD degree in physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science or related fields
  • Relevant experience in experimental work and analysis of experimental data
  • Experience in neutron scattering experiments mandatory
  • Competence to communicate and collaborate with scientists, even being from different science areas
  • Self-motivated personality, with the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment on scientifically challenging problems
  • Very good command of written and spoken English (possibly German, too)

We offer you an exciting and varied role in an international and interdisciplinary working environment. The position is for a fixed term of 2 years. Salary and social benefits will conform to the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service (TVöD-Bund), pay group 13, depending on the applicant’s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks assigned to them.
