Research assistant (m/f/d) in the field of polymer science, materials science, chemistry or physics with focus on polymers/​elastomers or a comparable field of study

The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Your responsibilities include:

Interdisciplinary development and investigation (R&D) of elastomer components, especially for testing of skid/grip of pavement surfaces using the Wehner/Schulze-method:

• Development of recipes for elastomers and their production
• Co-ordination of testing/characterization in the elastomer laboratory
• Evaluation of the elastomer components in practical application
• Co-ordination of collaboration with project partners
• Evaluation, compilation and presentation of results
• Documentation, preparation of interim and final reports, publication of results, pre-arrangements for standardization and technical boards
• Assistance for establishing as reference material of BAM

Your qualifications:

• Completed scientific university degree (M.Sc./M.Eng.) in the field of polymer science, materials science, chemistry or physics with a polymer/elastomer science focus or similar
• Completed doctorate is an advantage
• Relevant experience in testing and characterization of polymers/​elastomers
• Experience with interdisciplinary cooperation within the team and with external partners/​customers
• Knowledge of computer-based data evaluation and presentation
• Experience in project management and co-ordination, documentation, preparation of reports and publications
• Very good verbal and written communication skills in German and English
• Good communication and information skills, goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative/​willingness and ability to get involved, willingness and ability to make decisions, ability to work in a team and willingness to cooperate
