The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) is the national institute that prepares expert reports and opinions on issues of food, feed and chemical safety and consumer health protection in Germany on the basis of internationally recognised scientific assessment criteria. It advises the Federal Government and other institutions and interest groups in these areas. The BfR conducts its own research on topics that are closely related to its assessment tasks. It is an institution with legal capacity within the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Nutrition and Agriculture (BMEL).

In the department Safety in the Food Chain of the BfR is in the "Study Centre Land Use-Related Assessment Procedures, One Health Concepts" from immediately temporary for three years to fill the following position:

Research Assistant for the Consumer Health Protection of Animal Products in the Game Food Chain (F/M/D)

Part-time employment is possible. The fixed-term employment is based on the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz.

Tasks:

  • Independent planning and implementation of field studies on the occurrence of consumer-relevant risks in foods from the natural environment (e.g. game meat) with the aim of publishing the results
  • Assessment of the health risk for consumers, including the preparation of related opinions
  • Support in the strategic alignment and maintenance as well as documentation of sample material obtained (biobank; documentation in the Laboratory Information and Management System (LIMS))
  • Coordination of the annual sample requirement enquiry in the BfR departments
  • Coordination and collection of sample material from the natural environment (e.g. active participation in hunts)
  • Ensuring the scientific and administrative exchange of information within BfR and with stakeholders
  • Communication with national authorities and international partners
  • Planning, realisation and scientific evaluation of national and international events
  • Evaluation of scientific data and preparation of publications as well as communication and presentations on the status of own scientific studies and the results obtained
  • Supervision of academic theses, interns and students

Your profile:

  • Completed University degree (Master's degree, diploma or comparable university degree) in the Natural Sciences (e.g. Chemistry, Biology), Live Science, Veterinary Medicine, Geosciences or a comparable specialisation
  • Experience in the management of research projects and in the preparation of research proposals and scientific reports
  • Proven scientific publication activity
  • Good knowledge of German and very good knowledge of written and spoken English
  • Communication skills, a conscientious way of working, flexibility, the ability to work in a team and under pressure as well as the willingness to travel are required
