In our »Self-Learning Systems« group at Fraunhofer IIS, we combine expertise in various advanced machine learning topics to develop robust and safe algorithmic solutions for control and decision-making tasks in complex, dynamic environments. Our research goals include exploring the use of reinforcement learning for process engineering, radio network control, and variational quantum circuits, among other topics relevant to industry.

What you will do

•    Develop AI for radio communication and/or MIMO-beamforming.
•    Work with simulation and hardware prototypes of 5G/6G mobile radio networks.
•    Investigate strategies for inverse and/or offline reinforcement learning, and combinations thereof.
•    Participate in cooperative projects with industry and research institutions.
•    Manage project assignments and/or supervise students.
•    Disseminate research results through scientific publications, lectures, and outreach activities aimed at the general public (e.g., events, trade fairs, etc.).

What you bring to the table

•    A scientific degree in computer science, physics, math, or similar. A doctorate is a plus.
•    Experience in machine learning and deep neural networks
•    Knowledge in reinforcement learning (esp. model-free methods and policy gradients)
•    Programming experience in python
•    Fluent English in word and text

The position is initially limited to 2 years with the aim of extending it subsequently. The total weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis. Employment, compensation and benefits are based on the Collective Agreement for public service (TVöD). Additionally Fraunhofer may grant performance- and success-dependent variable compensation.
