The research group of Juniorprofessor Dr. Anna Krawczuk, Department of Chemistry at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, is looking to fill the position of a

Research Assistant (all genders welcome)
(PhD position in Theoretical Structural Chemistry)

with 50% of the regular working hours (currently 39,8 hours per week) with a limited contract of 3 years. The position should be filled as soon as possible. The salary level follows E 13 TV-L.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate to work on a research project, which aims theoretical predictions of physical and/ or chemical properties of materials. Quantum crystallography tools will be used towards better understanding of the relationship between crystal structure and physical properties, and single crystal X-ray diffraction experiments will be performed as one of the most important validation tools within this project.

Your profile
- you hold (or are in the process of concluding) a Master’s degree in Chemistry or Materials Science
- you are proficient in the English and/ or German language
- you have a strong background in quantum mechanics and molecular mechanics calculations (single molecules as well as periodic systems)
- you have knowledge/ experience in X-ray diffraction experiments
- you have knowledge of programming languages, preferably Fortran and/ or Python
- you have basic knowledge of the correlation between crystal structures and chemical properties of
compounds

The successful candidate will use quantum mechanics calculations for force fields in molecular dynamics and predict the structure of molecules and/ or periodic systems by means of DFT calculations. Taking part in the development of new software towards own improvements in the prediction of physical and/ or chemical properties of materials is part of the research project. Single crystal X-ray diffraction experiments will be performed by the candidate and used to get more insight into the understanding of intra- and intermolecular interactions and crystal field effects in solid state materials.
You are proficient in German or English and you are willing to carry out the project as part of an international team.
