At the University of Göttingen -Public Law Foundation-, Department für Nutztierwissenschaften, there are 2 positions as

to be filled. Starting date is 8/1/2023. The position is limited to three years.

The positions offer the opportunity for a PhD in an innovative research project on insect breeding.

PhD Student 1 („Genetics“) will mainly work on breeding issues. These include genome analyses, the estimation of genetic parameters and the development of breeding strategies for mealworms. An essential part of this work will be bioinformatic analyses, but also laboratory work. A university degree in animal science, veterinary medicine, biology or alike is required, ideally with a focus on breeding/genetics.
PhD student 2 ("Spectroscopy") will mainly perform FT-IR and NIR spectroscopy for process control, phenotyping and ingredient determination of mealworms, as well as analysis of product quality of fish after use of mealworms in fish diets. This includes spectroscopic experiments, chemical analysis, and statistical analysis or modeling. This requires a university degree in food or analytical chemistry, agricultural science, bioinformatics or alike.

 Your responsibilities will also include:
·         Literature research and preparation of the state of research
·         Coordination with project partners and coordination of project activities
·         Preparation of result reports and presentation of project results
·         (Co-)supervision of bachelor and master students related to the project
Hiring requirements are:
·         university degree with very good to good results (focus see above)
·         besides a good knowledge of English, a good knowledge of German is desirable
·         confident handling of common office software
·         initial experience with statistical data analysis, ideally using R
Your strengths are ideally creativity, commitment and strength of implementation. You are characterized by a quick grasp as well as a hands-on mentality, and you work conscientiously and responsibly.
