Several positions (f/m/d) to be filled in a cooperation between the ZMBH and the CZS

The Center for Molecular Biology of the University of Heidelberg (ZMBH) and the Center for Synthetic Genomics funded by the Carl Zeiss Foundation (CZS Center SynGen: https://syn-gen.de ) in Germany invite applications for tenured faculty positions, positions for a junior group leader and a lab head of a Biofoundry on Synthetic DNA for individuals using innovative computational, laboratory, experimental, and engineering approaches, to venture into the realms of Synthetic Genomics. The successful applicants can work across any scales or systems within the area of biological engineering or synthetic microbiology, with a research focus on synthetic genomics in the broadest sense. Duties also encompass teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate level (subject to departmental requirements and the candidate's expertise), along with involvement in training programs for both undergraduate and graduate students.

The Ruperto Carola University in Heidelberg, the oldest in Germany, recently added an Engineering Sciences Faculty at the intersection of material science, biotechnology, and computational science. Its Neuenheimer Feld Campus, Germany's largest for natural and life sciences, houses numerous prestigious science facilities and institutes. The ZMBH at this university has a history of groundbreaking work in molecular/cell biology and biomedicine. It anticipates rapid progress in synthetic DNA, AI, and natural sciences, potentially revolutionizing biomedicine, bioengineering, and biomanufacturing. Through its CZS Center SynGen Initiative, the ZMBH is dedicated to advancing these fields with comprehensive research in programmable biology.

The CZS Center SynGen at the Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung aids the Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, and Mainz universities in creating a prominent research hub in Synthetic Genomics, including junior research group groups, multiple professorships in biological engineering and synthetic microbiology. In Heidelberg, this initiative will eventually relocate into the new Heidelberg For Life (H4L) building situated at a prominent position near the Max Planck Institute at the Neuenheimer Feld Campus.
