The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (MfN) is an excellent and integrated research museum of the Leibniz Association with an international reputation and globally connected research infrastructure. MfN is active in three closely interlinked fields: collection-based research, collection development, and research-based public and educational outreach. Over the next ten years, the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin will build up a science campus for nature and society in the centre of Berlin as science hub, together with the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin. New laboratories and workplaces for cutting-edge research will be established. One of the world's most comprehensive natural history collections with over 30 million objects will be housed in state of the art buildings as well as fully digitized. The implementation of the so-called Zukunftsplan (future plan), funded with a total of 660 million euros from the Federal Government and the State of Berlin, strongly relies on interdisciplinary national and international partners.

Project description:

The Social Innovation Unit is dedicated to the interactions between science and various stakeholders at the interfaces between different scientific disciplines, policy, civil society and business. The department actively promotes the establishment of cooperations and networks, offers professional, needs-based training and further education in the field of public engagement and promotes cooperation between groups of actors in the urban natural space.

On the one hand, the department conducts social science studies such as network analyses, content analyses, surveys and interviews in order to research the corresponding dialogue and negotiation processes at the interfaces between scientific, political and other social actors. On the other hand, the department actively supports the museum in its goals of "communicating knowledge" and "changing society" by operating information portals, holding workshops and events with various formats and objectives, and involving members of civil society in scientific and deliberative processes. With the "Berlin School of Public Engagement and Open Science", the museum aims to advance the professionalisation of public engagement in a pioneering role nationally with its partners. The Social Innovation Unit is structured as follows: Naturblick team, Citizen Science and Open Science and Education.

Responsibilities:

  • support in the conceptual development and administrative operation of the Berlin School of Public Engagement and Open Science
  • organisation and coordination of the internal/external communication of the projects PE + K+P, support of the strategic networking between the sub-projects 'Public Engagement and Impact' and 'Cooperations and Partnerships' as well as within the project structures of the project Knowledge Transfers and MfN

Requirements:

  • University degree in communication, natural sciences, humanities, social sciences or other relevant subjects (UAS or university) or professional experience in a relevant field of work appropriate for the position.
  • interest and proven experience in one or more of the following areas: (science) communication, public engagement, training, knowledge transfer, interdisciplinary and creative collaborations, project management, event organisation, innovation, data management, evaluation
  • good knowledge in setting up and managing national or international projects as well as process optimisation in (international) teams
  • experience in setting up, implementing and accompanying team development and communication processes
  • proven experience with scientific publications, project reports and evaluations
  • good knowledge and proven experience with formats and software packages for communication and collaboration (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Miro, Padlet, newsletter creation, e-learning platforms)
  • confident handling of MS-Office
  • proven experience in project work with parallel deadlines as well as working independently and in a structured manner
  • excellent ability to work in a team
  • very good knowledge and proven experience in communicating with different stakeholders and channels, both verbally and in writing
  • business fluent in written and spoken German and English
