PROFESSORSHIP URBAN DESIGN
(STÄDTEBAU UND ENTWERFEN) (W3)

commencing at the earliest opportunity.

For the bachelor‘s and master‘s degree programmes in the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Urban Planning at the Brandenburg University of Technology, we are looking for a person with compelling teaching qualities and a professional and methodological approach to urban design theory. Candidates are expected to show several years of practical experience and have a successful track record of involvement in the area of urban design competitions. Their own work should reflect convincing answers to current questions being raised in the areas of sustainable and innovative urban planning and development. The professorship also requires farreaching methodological competence in the analysis of the city, its historical processes, of urban environments and the development of future-oriented urban solutions. Candidates must be able to work toward anchoring the discipline of urban design at the interface of design-based architecture and method-based urban planning. A university degree with a qualification as an urban planner and/or as an architect with spe-cialisation in urban design is a prerequisite for the position. Candidates should also be able to teach courses both in German and in English, and should ideally be able to show international experience. Courses are aimed at students in the »Urban Design and Planning« (bachelor‘s) and »Urban Planning« (master‘s) degree programmes, but are also incorporated into the Architecture (bachelor‘s and master‘s) and Urban Design (master‘s) and World Heritage Studies (master‘s) degree programmes. Studies are designed to be trans-disciplinary and project-based. Candidates are expected to show particular initiative in the area of applied urban research.

Other duties result from the requirements set by § 42 Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz (Higher Education Act of the State of Brandenburg - BbgHG) in conjunction with § 3 BbgHG. Please refer to §§ 41 paragraph 1 No 1 – 4a and 43 BbgHG for prerequisites and conditions of employment. Experience in the acquisition and realization of third-party funded projects is expected. Fields of research should be relevant for the DFG (German Research Foundation) or similar international research funding organizations. Lectures are primarily to be held in German, fluency in English is expected.
