Potsdam University of Applied Sciences (FHP) is an innovative, forward-looking and practically oriented university. The Faculty of Civil Engineering is seeking to fill the following post for the winter semester 2020/21:

W2 Professor of Concrete and Masonry Structures - Reinforced Concrete Construction, Prestressed Concrete Construction, Masonry Construction Reference No. 12 / 2020

We are offering the opportunity to take independent responsibility for teaching and research in the subject on the Bachelor's and Master’s programmes offered by the Faculty of Civil Engineering and to further develop it in terms of both substance and methodology. You can look forward to motivated students and open-minded colleagues with a diverse range of expertise, There will be many opportunities for cooperation with public and private institutions and bodies involved in the construction industry, politics, research and administration in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region.

You will be expected to provide practically-focused teaching on the courses offered by the Faculty of Civil Engineering with the following areas of emphasis

- Reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete construction

- Concrete restoration and strengthening of concrete components

- Masonry construction.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering integrates project-oriented content to a high degree within its programmes. You will utilise innovative methods of digital, online-based teaching and advocate the principle of research-based learning. The outstanding possibilities offered by our laboratories for experimental teaching will be available to you for this. Beyond the range of courses offered by the existing programmes, you will develop courses for the future, construction-oriented Master’s degree programme. Accordingly the curricula must be continuously developed. You will also be prepared to participate in interdisciplinary, cross-departmental courses and, where necessary, to be involved in foundation subject courses. Alongside German language classes, you should also be able to deliver courses in English-language modules in the future.

You will be willing and able to intensively pursue experimental R&D projects in construction engineering using the existing laboratory capacities. In so doing, you will acquire third-party funded research projects in the above-mentioned key areas. You will be interested and prepared to work closely with other universities and research institutions. The same applies to technology transfer with partners in the region as well as on a national and international basis.

In addition to an appropriate degree in a civil engineering subject, you will have in-depth knowledge and practical career experience in Concrete and Masonry Structures. This also includes material-specific calculation and construction, current developments and ecological and economic aspects. You will have adequate teaching experience and enjoy participating in interdisciplinary, cross-departmental courses. It goes without saying that the post holder will also be involved in academic self-governance, and that pedagogic and social skills are a necessity.

The applicable conditions of employment are set out in § 41 paragraph 1, points 1 to 3 and 4b of the Brandenburg Universities Act (BbgHG). Provided that the post holder meets the relevant requirements, it may be possible to convert the employment relationship to civil servant status. In the event that this is a first appointment to a professorship, the contractual relationship shall initially be limited to five years in accordance with § 43 para. 1 of the BbgHG and § 35 of the rules of

appointment of Potsdam University of Applied Sciences. Shortly before the end of this period an assessment shall be carried out to determine if the employment relationship may be extended without the post being re-advertised.
