The Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for the position of Professor in »Design Methodologies« W2 Tenure Track Assistant Professor (with tenure track to W3) or W3 Associate/Full Professor; to begin as soon as possible.

Scientific environment

The professorship will be assigned to the Department of Architecture within the future School of Engineering and Design. The department is closely linked to the engineering disciplines. Our vision is to successfully link design practice with research. The professorship will be intensively involved in the establishment of the new Integrative Research Center, Munich Design Institute (MDI). The MDI fosters dynamic collaboration in research, teaching and innovation – as a catalyst for design-driven system innovation at TUM.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include research and teaching as well as the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research area of Design Methodologies. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the university’s bachelor and master programs. The appointee will teach theoretical foundations, methodological and subject-specific knowledge in studio-based study projects. You address practice-based design research. Transfer achievements into design practice are expected, as well as a full-time presence at the TUM locations, Munich and Garching.

Qualifications


We are looking for candidates who have demonstrated excellent achievements in research and teaching in an internationally recognized scientific environment, relative to the relevant career level (please see

A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific/artistic qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, are prerequisites. Substantial research experience abroad is expected, the proven ability to attract third party funding is a prerequisite.

We require the use of design methods to solve societal challenges in the areas of system, process, space and product development. We expect a high affinity for innovation and entrepreneurship topics. The professorship is open to designers or humanists with creative business experience.
