An der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen ist zum nächstmöglichen Zeitpunkt eine Stelle als

Postdoktorand*in in Agrarökonomie (w/m/d)

zu besetzen.

Die Stelle ist angesiedelt am Department für Agrarökonomie und Rurale Entwicklung, Arbeitsbereich Umwelt- und Ressourcenökonomik (Lehrstuhl Prof. Meike Wollni) und assoziiert mit der Research Training Group (GRK) 2654 “Sustainable Food Systems”.

Es handelt sich dabei um eine Vollzeitstelle (100%, Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L, mit einer regelmäßigen wöchentlichen Arbeitszeit von derzeit 39.8 Std.). Die Stelle ist auf drei Jahre befristet mit der Option zur Verlängerung um bis zu weitere drei Jahre nach WissZeitVG. Es handelt sich bei der Stelle um eine Qualifizierungsstelle für Nachwuchswissenschaftler*innen, die im Anschluss an die Promotion eine akademische Karriere mit dem Ziel Professur anstreben. Die Stelle ist inhaltlich eingebunden sowohl in die Arbeit des Lehrstuhls als auch des GRK.

Die Position umfasst Forschung und Lehre zu interdisziplinären Fragestellungen zu nachhaltigen Ernährungssystemen. Landwirtschaft und Ernährung spielen für viele der globalen Herausforderungen wie Armut, Hunger, Klimawandel und Verlust der Artenvielfalt eine zentrale Rolle. Es ist klar, dass ohne gravierende Veränderungen in der Produktion und im Konsum von Lebensmitteln die globalen Nachhaltigkeitsziele nicht zu erreichen sind. Welche Veränderungen hilfreich sind und wie diese politisch und gesellschaftlich umgesetzt werden können, sind offene Fragen, die im GRK „Sustainable Food Systems“ umfassend erforscht werden sollen. Neben Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftlern aus den Agrar- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften der Universität Göttingen sind mehrere internationale Partner am GRK beteiligt, u.a. das International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington DC und die KU Leuven in Belgien. Der Dienstort ist Göttingen, und im Rahmen der Tätigkeit werden internationale Reisen für Datenerhebung, Kooperation mit Partnerorganisationen und Teilnahme an Konferenzen stattfinden.

Die Stelle umfasst folgende Aufgaben:
- Eigenständige Forschung in Kooperation mit Mitgliedern des GRK mit dem Ziel, die Publikationsleistung und Sichtbarkeit des GRK nachhaltig zu stärken;
- Unterstützung der Weiterentwicklung des Forschungsschwerpunkts des GRK;
- Unterstützung der Sprecherin (Prof. Wollni) bei Forschungsarbeiten am Lehrstuhl und im GRK;
- Unterstützung der Sprecherin in der Lehre und bei allgemeinen Aufgaben in der Lehre (auf Deutsch und Englisch);
- Betreuung von Abschlussarbeiten (Bachelor, Master und Promotion) am Lehrstuhl und ggf. im GRK (auf Deutsch und Englisch).

Sie verfügen über:
- ein mit sehr guter Note abgeschlossenes wissenschaftliches Hochschulstudium bestehend aus einem Masterabschluss (oder äquivalent) und einer Promotion (bevorzugt abgeschlossen oder kurz vor Abschluss stehend) in Agrarwissenschaften (mit ökonomischem Schwerpunkt) oder in einer verwandten Disziplin;
- nachgewiesene (umwelt-)ökonomische und naturwissenschaftliche Kompetenzen und Erfahrungen in der interdisziplinären und internationalen Zusammenarbeit;
- Erfahrungen mit quantitativer, empirischer Arbeit, insbesondere Ökonometrie, zu Themen von nachhaltigen Ernährungssystemen, Wirkungsanalysen, ökonomische Bewertung von Umweltdienstleistungen, Analyse von ökologisch-ökonomischen Trade-offs, Evaluierung von Politikinstrumenten;
- eigene Erfahrung mit quantitativer Datenerhebung im südostasiatischen und/oder afrikanischen und/oder lateinamerikanischen Raum;
- eigene Erfahrungen im Bereich der Lehre (in Englisch und Deutsch);
- sehr gute Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift und gute Deutschkenntnisse bzw. die Bereitschaft, gute Deutschkenntnisse zeitnah zu erwerben;
- die Fähigkeit zur selbständigen Arbeit in Form von wissenschaftlichen Publikationen;
- Kompetenzen in der interdisziplinären und interkulturellen Teamarbeit.

The University of Göttingen has a position opening for a

Post-Doctoral Researcher in Agricultural Economics (all genders welcome)

to join the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development, Division of Environmental and Resource Economics, Chair of Prof. Meike Wollni. The position is associated with the Research Training Group (RTG) 2654 “Sustainable Food Systems” funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The position should be filled immediately. The regular working hours will be 100% (currently 39.8 hours per week), the salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale E13 TVL. The position is limited to three years with an option of prolongation for up to three more years according to the WissZeitVG (the German public law for employees in the academic sector). This is a qualification position for junior researchers pursuing an academic career after the PhD degree. The research focus of the position is aligned with both the Chair of Prof. Wollni as well as the RTG.

The position involves interdisciplinary research on questions related to “Sustainable Food Systems”. Food and agriculture are playing key roles for many of the global challenges such as poverty, undernutrition, climate change, and biodiversity loss. It is obvious that the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) cannot be achieved without major changes in food production and consumption. But what types of changes are useful and how these changes can be implemented politically, economically, and socially are open questions that will be addressed in the RTG. The program, with PIs from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the Faculty of Business and Economics, is implemented in cooperation with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in Washington DC and KU Leuven in Belgium. The position is based in Göttingen (Germany), but will require international travel for data collection and exchange with collaborators. The duties of the position are:
- Independent research in cooperation with members of the RTG with the aim to increase the research output (in terms of publications) and the visibility of the RTG;
- Contribution to the strategic development of the research focus of the RTG;
- Support of the speaker (Prof. Wollni) in terms of research at the chair and the RTG;
- Support of the speaker in terms of teaching and general tasks (in German and English);
- Supervision of students with their theses (Bachelor, Master and PhD level) at the chair and poss. at the RTG (in German and English);

Your profile:
- Outstanding Master’s degree (or equivalent) and a PhD degree (completed or close to completion) in agricultural economics or a related discipline;
- Experience with relevant research methods in (environmental) economics and the link to natural sciences as well as interdisciplinary and international cooperation;
- Experience with quantitative econometric research methods on sustainable food systems, impact analysis, valuation of ecosystem services, ecological-economic trade-offs, policy evaluation;
- Experience with own data collection in an international context in South-East Asia, Africa, and/or Latin America;
- Teaching experience (in German and English);
- Excellent command of the English language and good knowledge of the German language or the willingness to acquire good German language skills;
- Experiences to conduct independent research including a good publication record;
- Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation in an international and intercultural team.
