The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). It also maintains a research station with further locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.

Within the frame of the ZALF project "PRO-PLANTEURS Research: Accompanying Research on Strategies for Income Improvement of Farming Families and Sustainable Cocoa Production" in the working group Sustainable Land Use in Developing Countries (SusLAND), we offer a part-time position (75% full-time equivalent) from 1.9.2022 until 31.5.2023 (with possible option of extension) for a

Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d)

Tasks:

  • assess selected strategies to reduce the living income gap among cocoa farming households in Côte d'Ivoire with special focus on community impacts
  • conduct socio-economic impact analysis based on existing data sets
  • support on-going activities incl. stakeholder mapping, policy analysis, situational problem analysis and trade-off analysis
  • possibly conduct own data collection for complementation of data
  • support project management with administrative tasks including log frame monitoring and reporting
  • publication of scientific papers, policy briefs and results presentation

Your qualifications:

  • advanced University degree (doctoral degree) in the field of agricultural economics or related fields.
  • expertise on sustainable land-use systems (ideally cocoa agroforestry) and inclusive value chains
  • good knowledge on socio-economic impact assessment and statistical analysis
  • own field research experience
  • ideally, experience in sciene – policy dialogue
  • excellent knowledge of French and English; ideally also German
  • openness to travel and conduct field-research in Côte d’Ivoire

  • salary will follow the guidelines for public employees according to the German TV-L level up to E 13, including special annual payment
  • the working place is in Müncheberg near Berlin, Germany
  • mobile work of max. 40% of monthly working time is possible given reconciliation with project requirements
