The Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) in Cologne is one of the world’s premier sites committed to basic research and training in plant science. The institute has four science departments, three independent research groups and specialist support, totalling ~ 400 staff including externally funded positions.

The MPIPZ invites applications for an Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d) for Protein Mass Spectrometry Unit.

The successful applicant will develop/establish advanced methods for plant proteomics and engage multiple collaborations primarily within the institute. The group is equipped with state-of-the-art high-resolution mass spectrometers, which are used for peptide identifications and large-scale proteomic approaches. We are seeking an enthusiastic person, who completes and advances our proteomics group. We expect prior knowledge of peptide identifications by mass spectrometry as well as experience in running and maintaining mass spectrometers.


Your tasks

Successful applicants should hold a PhD in Biology/Biochemistry/Chemistry. Proven experience with the operation of high-resolution mass spectrometers and analysis of MS data is a requirement. Computer skills, including the use of statistical and scripting languages, previous work on plant proteomics is beneficial but not a requirement. Fluent written and spoken communication in English is essential, and German would be advantageous. Additionally the successful applicant should be highly self-motivated and team oriented. Strong communication and organizational skills are expected.
