The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Your responsibilities include:
Subject: Development of thermographic methods for testing and monitoring electrical energy storage systems (including batteries) and systems for storing and transporting hydrogen.

- Development of concepts for passive and active thermography for testing stationary and mobile energy storage devices (Na-, Li-ion batteries) during typical charging cycles and during thermal runaway
- Development of concepts based on passive and active thermography for testing and monitoring of systems for storage and systems for transport and use of hydrogen
- Experimental verification of these concepts and publication of the results in national and international peer-reviewed journals as well as at conferences and Meetings
- Participation in foresight processes and competence centers of BAM on the topics of electrical energy storage and hydrogen
- Establishment of an international network for non-destructive testing of electrical energy storage systems and of hydrogen Systems
- Application, coordination and processing of third-party funded Projects
- Supervision of young scientists (student assistants, bachelor and master theses, doctorates)

Your qualifications:
- Very good university degree (diploma / master's degree) with very good doctorate in electrical engineering, chemistry, physical chemistry, process engineering, physics, materials technology, physical engineering or comparable
- Several years of experience and very good knowledge in at least one of the following fields, demonstrated by professional activity and refereed publications:
- Characterization of electrical energy storage devices and in particular batteries during and after cyclic loading and thermal runaway.
- Evaluation of materials and equipment for production, storage, transport and use of hydrogen
- Evaluation of compressed gas storage systems, cryogenic storage systems and cavern storage Systems
- Several years of experience in planning and conducting experiments. Experience in non-destructive testing by thermography is desirable
- Very good programming skills with Matlab, Python or C
- Experience with building scientific networks (internal and external)
- Experience in applying for, coordinating and processing third-party funded Projects
- Willingness to perform experimental work on the BAM TTS experimental set-up and to travel on official business.
- Class 3 driving license
- Very good written and spoken German and English skills are required
- Good communication and information behaviour, goal-oriented and structured way of working, initiative / commitment, willingness and ability to make decisions and ability to work in a team / willingness to cooperate
