The Soil Science group (PTS) at the Georg-August-University of Göttingen is offering a position as
Postdoctoral Researcher in Soil Science (all genders welcome)
The position serves the candidate to gain scientific qualifications with the aim of obtaining a habilitation.

It should be filled as soon as possible, and is offered under a fixed-term contract for 3 years (qualification phase), with the option to extend with another period of up to 3 years. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale, E13 TV-L with 100 %, which corresponds to 39,8 working hours per week.


Your Duties:
The Soil Science Group (PTS) conducts research on the role of soils in carbon, nutrient cycling and trace gas exchange in natural ecosystems and tree-based land use systems such as agroforestry. In our research, which is conducted in temperate and/or tropical settings, we apply field-based methods that also include stable isotope-tracing and -dilution methods. Within this context, we expect that the successful applicant will develop his/her own research profile and that he/she will lead the trace gas laboratory as part of his/her qualification. Teaching responsibilities are 4 SWS (weekly hours per semester) with lectures, field and laboratory exercises.
Your Profile

  • Ph.D. with a Master/Diploma in soil science or related disciplines (geo-ecology, environmental sciences, forest ecology, etc.).
  • Relevant research experience in temperate, tropical or subtropical land use systems
  • Excellent knowledge of statistics, skills in data analysis with R and/or programming.
  • Experience with methods of trace gas analysis and/or use of stable isotopes.
  • Scientific creativity shown by a track record of original and innovative research.
  • Proficiency in English.
