The newly established group “Computational Plant Biology” at the TUM School of Life Sciences in Weihenstephan, Freising is looking for a motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join our team, starting as soon as possible

Your responsibilities:

The Computational Plant Biology group at the TUM School of Life Sciences is a newly established group working on plant genomics with a focus on agricultural crops, particularly cereals. Your activities will include conducting research projects in areas such as comparative genomics within large pan-genomes, as well as within a genus, family, or across kingdoms, as well as multi-omics and network analyses. In additions, we work on the development of new methods and approaches in plant genome research all while working a highly international, interdisciplinary research environment. You will also actively participate in teaching in bachelor's and master's degree programs in bioinformatics, particularly in practical courses, and assist in PhD supervision. Additionally, you will have the freedom to apply for your own funding, write research proposals, publish findings, attend conferences, and build a network. Here, you have the opportunity to actively contribute to the advancement of plant genomics while simultaneously furthering your academic and professional career.

Your qualifications:

  • A PhD in a relevant field of plant sciences, bioinformatics, or a related area.
  • Expertise in genome research, omics technologies, and bioinformatics.
  • An interest in independently investigating scientific questions and working in a team.
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring students will be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, bash, and R.
  • Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) and handling big data.
  • Fluency in English.

Our offer:

We offer a full-time position as a postdoctoral researcher with the opportunity for further qualification. The position is open for an immediate start, initially limited to two years, with an option for extension. Salary will be based on the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Länder (TV-L).
