The Max Planck Institute of Biophysics is a leading international research institute that uses biophysical, biochemical and computational methods to investigate the structure, dynamics and function of cellular systems at the molecular scale. It consists of four scientific departments, multiple research groups and scientific core facilities, with about 200 employees from more than 25 countries. It is located at the Campus Riedberg in Frankfurt am Main.


About the department

The research group of Eugene Kim at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics, focused on the structure and dynamics of chromosomes, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m/d) 
to study Structural Maintenance of Chromosome (SMC) complexes using in vitro single-molecule biophysical methods. The candidate will analyze the structural and dynamic properties of SMC complexes using TIRF-based single-molecule imaging and beyond. A dynamic, enthusiastic, and international team of biophysicists and biochemists will await the candidate, ready to tackle exciting problems related to genome organization and maintenance collaboratively.


Your profile

We are seeking for

  • An outstanding experimentalist with research background in biophysics, physics, biochemistry, molecular
  • biology or a related field of science.
  • Prior experience in programming (Python) for data analysis and/or controlling hardware is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience in fluorescence imaging is desirable but not required.
  • A creative and independent individual with a strong interest in motor proteins and genome maintenance.o Proficiency in English (both speaking and writing)

Our offer

The salary is in accordance to the Public Sector Collective Agreement Bund (TVöD, E14). The position is available immediately and limited for 2 years.
