Job Offer from June 15, 2022

The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) in Martinsried (near Munich, Germany) is one of the leading international research institutions in the fields of biochemistry, cell and structural biology and biomedical research. With about 30 scientific departments and research groups and about 750 employees, the MPIB is one of the largest institutes of the Max Planck Society.

The Department of „Molecular Medicine” headed by director Prof. Dr. Reinhard Fässler is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (f/m/d).

The position

The Fässler Department investigates how cell surface receptors bind proteins of the extracellular matrix and connect them to the actin-myosin cytoskeleton. A postdoctoral position is available for two years to study the ubiquitin regulation of the cell surface proteome in cancer.

We seek for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join a enthusiastic and collaborative team in a outstanding scientific environment. The project will target the ubiquitin proteasome system control of the NF-B signaling pathway and the impact on the surfaceome of tumor cells. As part of the project, you will identify new vulnerabilities in cancer and provide a unique opportunity for drug discovery.

Your qualifications

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, medicine or genetics and has a strong track record of accomplishment. Prior experience with immuno-oncology, mice models, and cell biology methods (FACs, IF, ELISA) would be welcome, but not required. The applicant should have a keen interest in molecular mechanisms dysregulated in cancer and excellent collaboration and communication skills. You should be able to work independently and also have excellent team working skills. An excellent written and oral command of English is essential.

Research environment

The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried, was founded in 1972 with the aim to understand fundamental mechanism of biochemistry, cell and structural biology, biophysics and molecular medicine. New imaging methods as well as bioinformatics play an increasingly important role. Together with the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology, the Innovation and Startup Center Biotechnology (IZB) as well as the Biomedical Center and various faculties of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU), the institute if part of a network of research institutions in the southwest of Munich. The candidate will have access to equiped with state-of-the-art technology and excellent core facilities available. The Molecular Medicine department provides outstanding research opportunities for its scientists.
