With about 30 scientific departments and research groups and about 800 employees, the MPIB is one of the largest institutes of the Max Planck Society.

The Department of Machine Learning and Systems Biology headed by director Dr. Karsten Borgwardt is seeking a Postdoctoral research fellow (f/m/d).

Scientists in the Department of Machine Learning and Systems Biology develop and apply novel machine learning algorithms to detect patterns and statistical dependencies in large datasets from biology and medicine. Machine learning on graphs, machine learning in medicine and machine learning in protein research are current and future foci of the department. We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher (m/f/d) to join an enthusiastic and collaborative team in an outstanding scientific environment.

Qualifications

The successful applicant (m/f/d) will hold a Ph.D. in computer science, machine learning, mathematics, bioinformatics or related fields. The applicant (m/f/d) should have a strong interest and prior experience in developing new machine learning methods and/or applying machine learning algorithms for solving problems in the life sciences. Written and oral command of English is essential.

Research environment

The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried, was founded in 1973 with the aim to understand fundamental mechanism of biochemistry, cell and structural biology, biophysics and molecular medicine. Machine learning and bioinformatics play an increasingly important role in this endeavor. The institute is part of a strong network of research institutions in the southwest of Munich and provides outstanding research opportunities for its scientists.
