The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry (MPIB) in Martinsried, Munich is one of the leading international research institutions in the fields of biochemistry, cell and structural biology and biomedical research. With about 30 scientific departments and research groups and about 800 employees, the MPIB is one of the largest institutes of the Max Planck Society.

The Department of Cellular Biochemistry headed by director Prof. Dr. F. Ulrich Hartl is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (f/m/d).

Scientists in the Cellular Biochemistry department investigate the mechanisms of molecular chaperone functions in protein folding and related cellular processes. The department also studies the interference of toxic protein aggregates with key cellular functions and their role in neurodegenerative diseases. We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join an enthusiastic and collaborative team in an outstanding scientific environment. You will work in a European Research Grant (ERC) funded project to globally analyze the folding of nascent polypeptides using a range of approaches including proteomics methods.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in biology, biochemistry or related fields. Prior experience with mass spectrometry is required. The applicant should have a strong interest in molecular mechanisms of proteostasis and excellent collaboration and communication skills. You should be able to develop new methods independently and have excellent team working skills. Written and oral command of English is essential.

Research environment

The Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry, Martinsried, was founded in 1972 with the aim to understand fundamental mechanism of biochemistry, cell and structural biology, biophysics and molecular medicine. New imaging methods as well as proteomics and bioinformatics play an increasingly important role. The institute is part of a strong network of research institutions in the southwest of Munich and provides outstanding research opportunities for its scientists. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art technology and excellent core facilities.
