The Assistant Professorship of Sustainable Future Mobility (Dept. Aerospace & Geodesy) is looking for a Postdoc to support the development of methodologies for life-cycle GHG emissions calculations, starting as soon as possible

Information:
The Assistant Professorship of Sustainable Future Mobility is part of the Department of Aerospace and Geodesy within the TUM School of Engineering and Design. The group carries out research in the areas of novel aviation propulsion (SAF, H2), the Hyperloop technology, and hydrogen safety technology. Our focus in research and teaching is on the principles of technical thermodynamics.

The aviation sector has grown at a significant pace in recent years, and despite improvements in aircraft efficiency, the sector’s impact on climate change is a growing concern. To address this concern, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) established the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) to help reduce aviation greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. So far, for a selected number of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) a methodology has been agreed upon by the 193 ICAO member states to evaluate the life-cycle GHG emissions of SAF, in the CORSIA system. More SAF pathways are currently being developed and require methodology development for their core life-cycle assessment to determine the GHG savings of those new pathways.

Tasks:
Your activities will include

  • Conducting research in the field of life-cycle GHG emissions calculation for the transport sector, especially aviation,
  • The supervision of students, and
  • Teaching

Your qualifications:
You have a Ph.D. in the area of engineering and management, economics, or mechanical/chemical engineering with expertise in life-cycle assessments and are interested in independently investigating scientific questions and working in an international team.

What we offer:
We offer a full-time position as an academic staff. The position will be initially limited to 31.12.2023. Payment will be based on the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service of the Länder (TV-L). TUM strives to raise the proportion of women in its workforce and explicitly encourages applications from qualified women. Applications from disabled persons with essentially the same qualifications will be given preference. International candidates are highly encouraged to apply.

Application:
If you are interested in working with our team, please send your application in one single pdf file (incl. an introductory letter, strong CV, qualifications, list of publications, and any references you might have) to the Assistant Professorship, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Agnes Jocher, Dept. Aerospace & Geodesy, School of Engineering & Design, Boltzmannstr. 15, 85748 Garching, no later than 8 December 2022
