School of Business and Economics

Postdoctoral fellow (m/f/d) with expected full-time employment - E 13 TV-L HU (third party funding, limited for 2 years)

The Chair of Statistics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is looking for a postdoctoral fellow within the recently established interdisciplinary research unit FOR 5363 "DeSBi - Fusing Deep Learning and Statistics towards Understanding Structured Biomedical Data" (Spokesperson: Professor Sonja Greven). The first funding period runs from 01/2023 to 12/2026. The postdoctoral position is initially for two years with the possibility of extension.

DeSBi

The research unit is funded as one of eight in the German Research Foundation's (DFG) AI call. It offers a special research environment at the interface between statistics, machine learning and biomedical applications. In the research group, experts from the field of machine learning and statistics with experience in biomedical applications work together to improve interpretability, uncertainty quantification and statistical inference for Deep Learning and to increase the flexibility of statistical models for structured data. The methods are being developed in close feedback with biomedical applications that collect structured data such as images, gene sequences or time series in high-frequency measurements and require not only good predictions but also uncertainty quantification, adjustment for confounding variables and tests of hypotheses with statistical error control, thus integrating Deep Learning and statistical methods. DeSBi is a joint project of researchers from HU Berlin, TU Berlin, Charité, University of Potsdam, Hasso Plattner Institute, Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine and Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute. The postdoctoral fellow is a member of the research unit and the Chair of Statistics at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Prof. Dr. Sonja Greven, https://hu.berlin/sg ). We offer integration into a lively and interdisciplinary team, family-friendly working hours, an excellent research environment and the opportunity to help shape the development of an increasingly important field of research. We support career development through opportunities for further training and mentoring.

  • presentation of the results at international conferences and in journal publications
