Offer Description

At the University of Greifswald’s Institute of Microbiology in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences there is a job vacancy expected to be available for next possible appointment, subject to budgetary regulations, for a part-time (66,67 %)

Postdoctoral Fellow.

The position on offer is permanent. Payment will be made according to pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft.

Tasks:

  • Scientific duties in research and teaching
  • Teaching in accordance with the LVVO (currently 5.4 classes à 45 min./week) in the fields of microbiology, aquatic microbial ecology, microbial interactions, molecular ecology and biostatistics
  • Independent planning and implementation of lectures and seminars in both in-person and digital formats, as well as practicals and exercises
  • Independent supervision of projects and thesis in the above-mentioned areas
  • Head of a working group on the topic of "Aquatic Microbiomes" with research topics that fit into ongoing and planned research consortia at the University of Greifswald
  • Independent acquisition of third-party funding, e.g. for research into the microbiomes of seagrasses, marine plankton and wetland ecosystems
  • Staff management of project staff, supervision of their qualification work and scientific responsibility for the results

Employment requirements:

  • Completed advanced university degree and doctorate in the field of microbiology or molecular ecology
  • Suitability for the research areas of the Institute of Microbiology, e.g. local aquatic ecosystems, especially seagrass meadows and peatlands
  • Documented experience in the field of aquatic microbial ecology and bacteria-algae/seaweed interactions through relevant publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Proof of independently acquired third-party funding
  • Extensive and subject-specific teaching experience
  • Experience with microbiome data, including methods of biostatistics and bioinformatics (e.g. programming in R)
  • International activities, e.g. cooperation with research groups in the Baltic Sea region

Other knowledge and skills that will be considered in the selection decision:

  • Experience in online teaching
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Research stay abroad
