Offer Description
The Saunders Lab at the Centre for Organismal Studies at Heidelberg University is hiring a postdoctoral fellow or scientist to join our international research group. We are looking for a curious, motivated researcher to apply and develop high-throughput single-cell genomics (scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq), lineage tracing, and advanced genome editing approaches in zebrafish and medaka, as well as high resolution-imaging to understand how multiple embryonic sources contribute to the embryonic skull and other tissues during development. This interdisciplinary project will be part of broader efforts to understand how animals adapt to changing environments via plasticity in both genetic networks and cellular behaviors.
You want to
- Study how phenotypes arise from changes in cell fate potential and cellular plasticity
- Learn cutting-edge single cell genomics approaches
- Develop new genetic tools for cell lineage tracing in whole organisms
- Compare developmental processes across species
Your profile
We are looking for a candidate with the following:
- A PhD in fields relating to Biology, Biochemistry, Genomics, or similar
- Previous experience in molecular biology and/or genomics

- Strong analytical skills with experience in statistical and computational data analysis
- Knowledge and experience related to automation of NGS library preparation
- Experience with single cell genomics or genomics technology development
- Experience with genome editing in vivo
- Experience working with zebrafish or medaka
We’re looking for the following personal skills:
- Collaborative spirit: Operating with transparency and contributing to an open and positive environment
- Innovative thinking: Ability to think creatively and propose novel solutions to complex scientific problems
- Self-motivation: Strong self-motivation with the ability to work independently when required
- Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion: A demonstrated commitment to contributing to a diverse and inclusive research environment
Who we are and what we offer
