Job description:The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC) is one of the world’s leading biomedical research institutions. At the locations in Berlin-Buch and Mitte, researchers from some 60 countries analyze the human system – investigating the biological foundations of life from its most elementary building blocks to systems-wide mechanisms. Patients should benefit as soon as possible from our basic research discoveries. The MDC therefore supports spin-off creation and participates in collaborative networks. It works in close partnership with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin in the jointly run Experimental and Clinical Research Center (ECRC), the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité, and the German Center for Cardiovascular Research. The MDC today employs 1,600 people and is funded 90 percent by the German federal government and 10 percent by the State of Berlin.
The spliceosome and sarcomere are macromolecular machines that play important roles in adapting cardiac contraction and filling. We have identified the splice regulator RBM20 as a therapeutic target in heart failure and aim to bring splice therapeutics to the clinic.
Job Description:
As a postdoc in the Gotthardt lab, you will study cardiac splicing and sarcomere biology with the focus on mechanotransduction and single cell biology / multi-omics. You will develop new strategies and therapeutic targets help improve biomechanical properties of the heart and improve remodeling. By using a combination of cell-biological, biochemical, and genetic tools as well as existing mouse and 3D-cell-culture models you will be able to uncover novel aspects of cardiomyocyte communication, growth, and adaptation. This work is third-party funded with the possibility for translation (preclinical), and involvement with small medium enterprises.
Requirements:
You should apply if you have just finished you PhD or MD PhD in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry or related discipline. You should be highly motivated and interested to work at the interface of basic and translational research. Background in molecular biology and commonly used technics in cell biology is necessary. As we communicate and perform research in English, no prior knowledge in German is needed.
Benefits:
- International working environment with communication in English and German
- Interesting career opportunities and a comprehensive range of qualification and further training opportunities
- Compatibility of family and career certified by the berufundfamilie audit
