Job Offer from August 09, 2022

The Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems , research group Data-driven Modeling of Complex Physical Systems (DMP) , invites applications for a Postdoc position (m/f/d) on the topic of “Learning and Optimization for Dynamical Systems at the Molecular Scale”.

The MPI Magdeburg is a world leading center for the development and analysis of mathematical models describing complex chemical, biotechnological and energy-related processes. Presently, around 230 scientific staff members from different disciplines such as process engineering, chemistry, biology, mathematics and computer science perform research in our institute. Excellent computing facilities are available on-site, including our HPC cluster “Mechthild”.

The DMP group is an interdisciplinary research unit concerned with the development and theoretical analysis of computational methods for the analysis, model reduction, and control of systems at the atomistic and molecular scale. We currently have several open projects, for instance concerning optimal identification of system parameters, efficient state space exploration, or the development of simulation-based methods for quantum systems. The details of the project can be determined according to the candidate’s background and research interests.

Requirements

We are looking to hire a postdoctoral researcher with a Ph.D. in applied mathematics, physics, or related fields. The ideal candidate should possess a strong background and research experience in at least one of the following topics: scientific machine learning, (stochastic) dynamical systems, optimization and control, molecular dynamics simulations, quantum physics. Proficiency in a relevant programming language is required, as well as the ability to aid with the supervision of graduate and undergraduate researchers.

Our offer

Your salary will be in accord with the collective bargaining agreement for the public service (E13 TVöD-Bund) including corresponding social benefits. The position will be for 2 years, with the possibility of extending it for a third year.
