Postdoc Position (f/m/d) in the field of Geothermal Research
Job description

KIT, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, is strongly expanding its geothermal program. The division of Geothermal Energy & Reservoir Technology (https://geothermics.agw.kit.edu) focuses on scientific and technological challenges of using geothermal energy. Projects are often conducted in an international context and are expanding from the local Upper Rhine Graben up to South America. Important studies in the context of the Helmholtz large infrastructure initiatives GeoLaB and DeepStor are accomplished. GeoLaB foresees to construct an underground research laboratory in a crystalline mining facility used for large-scale hydraulic experiments to quantify coupled THMC processes. DeepStor will test high temperature storage in a 1 km deep well on the KIT campus. Both projects are accompanied by extensive mechanical and tomographic measurements and will lead towards a unique bench mark data set and numerical interpretation of coupled processes in geothermal reservoirs.

An enthusiastic postdoc (f/m/d) is invited to join our research team to continue our numerical developments on a Multi-Physics Platform for the preparation of the future large-scale experiments at GeoLaB and DeepStor. The goal of this platform is to model coupled processes of geothermal reservoirs and scientific infrastructures. The field of work includes an independent elaboration of proposals, a supervision of students and a participation in teaching activities as well as general organizational tasks of the division.

Personal qualification

You have a successful PhD degree in geosciences with knowledge of physical processes and advanced experience on the elaboration of numerical codes and models (preferably on the MOOSE platform). We expect skills in scientific writing and a keen interest in working closely with our international team. Readiness for acquiring the German language (in spoken and written form) is indispensable.

Salary

The salary is based upon the wage agreement of the civil service in TV-L E13, depending on the fulfillment of professional and personal requirements.
