The Institute of Information Security and Dependability (KASTEL) offers a fully funded research assistant position in the Helmholtz project “Building Healthcare Resilience Against Cyber-Attacks” at the earliest possible date.

In recent years, the number and severity of cyber-attacks against healt­hcare providers and hospitals world­wide have increased signi­ficantly, resulting in blocked access to patient data and critical services, appoint­ment cancella­tions, and closed emer­gency depart­ments. This Helmholtz project is dedicated to making an entire hospital net­work more resilient to future cyber threats by developing a comprehen­sive and inter­disci­plinary approach. This project aims to use operations research methods to support decisions on selecting and imple­menting a range of appropriate prepa­ration and response measures for an inter­dependent hospital network to become resilient in the event of cyber-attacks.

Your main tasks and responsibilities within this project are:

  • Conduct academic research that will lead to high-quality scientific publi­cations in the fields of opera­tions research and business analytics
  • Contribute to projects with academic and industrial partners, e.g. KASTEL, Imperial College London, hospitals in Germany, etc.
  • Assist in the teaching activities of the depart­ment

Personal qualification

  • We welcome candidates with a PhD in any field that has a quanti­tative focus, including but not limited to operations research, business analytics, data analytics, mathematics, and related disciplines
  • Expertise in stochastic programming or robust optimization Affinity to data
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience with databases desirable
  • Ability to collaborate with others and work independently, take initiative and show enthusiasm
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English, German not require
