Join our team

European XFEL is an international non-profit company located in the Hamburg area in Germany. It operates a 3.4 km-long X-ray laser, which produces X-rays of unique quality for studies in physics, chemistry, the life sciences, materials research and other disciplines. The diverse scientific facilities at European XFEL enable scientists from across the globe to carry out a wide range of experimental techniques.

By exploiting the unique beam properties of the European XFEL facility, extremely sample and beam efficient liquid sample delivery methods are possible. In a 3-year research and development project, we aim developing methods like drop-on-demand sample delivery into a standard delivery method for chemistry and biology users.

For this project, we’re searching for a

Postdoc (f/m/d) for liquid sample delivery


The Position
  • Develop advanced sample-on-demand methods for user sample delivery
  • Collaborate with users of the European XFEL to setup and commission sample and beam efficient sample delivery methods at the Scientific Instruments of the European XFEL
  • Support users at the Scientific Instruments in liquid sample delivery by participating in beamtime shift work
  • Participate in external synchrotron and XFEL beamtimes for method development
  • Work independently on scientific projects

Requirements
  • PhD or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Biology or Physics
  • Experience in liquid sample delivery is of advantage
    • preferable drop-on-demand technology
    • or gas dynamic virtual nozzles
  • Experience with experiments at Synchrotron and/or Free-Electron-Laser facilities
  • Strong interest to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team
  • English is the working language
