Job description:

DESY

Ultrafast lasers represent a key enabling technology for research efforts at DESY. They are used to generate and manipulate electron beams at the free electron laser facilities FLASH and XFEL, enable pump-probe experiments at those facilities and drive compact accelerators at DESY. One of our research topics focuses on generating mJ-level few-cycle laser pulses using recently established methods employing nonlinear multi-pass cells. This way, cost and energy efficient picosecond lasers can be used to generate few-cycle pulses with high conversion efficiency and at high average power. We are applying this laser technology as driver for secondary photon and particle sources. Within our MEGA-EUV project, a joint activity between DESY, University of Hamburg as well as multiple industry partners including Class 5 Photonics and Amphos GmbH, we are developing a high-average power EUV source for metrology applications in the semicoductor industry. For this project we are seeking a self-driven, highly motivated laser scientist who will develop an ultrashort-pulse EUV-driver laser employing novel multi-pass schemes. Further informations about the project can be found here: innovation.desy.de

About your role:

  • Develop a high-average power ultrashort pulse laser source employing a multi-100 W scale picosecond pump laser for efficient few-cycle pulse generation
  • Advance nonlinear multi-pass cell technologies using novel frequency conversion schemes

About you:

  • PhD or Dr. degree in physics, electrical engineering or equivalent qualification
  • Excellent knowledge and experimental experience in ultrafast laser technology and nonlinear optics
  • Proven scientific track record in ultrafast optics
  • Preferentially experience with laser pulse post-compression technology

Look forward to a unique working environment on our international research campus. Respectful cooperation and the well-being of our DESY employees are particularly important to us. Gender equality is an important aspect for us. To support work life balance we offer flexible working hours, variable part-time, job-sharing models and participation in mobile work (up to 50%). You will benefit from our family-friendly and collegial atmosphere, our established health management and occupational pension provision. As a public funded employer, we offer you a secure workplace and facilitate your individual career with our comprehensive training and development opportunities. Remuneration is according to the regulations of the TV-AVH. DESY offers its employees a financial supplement for a German job ticket at both locations.

We look forward to receiving your application via our application portal:
