Applications are invited for the position of a post-doctoral researcher at the Department of East Asian Studies (attached to the chair professorship of Prof. Dominic Sachsenmaier) of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen.

The postdoctoral position is limited to a period of up to two years (to be filled as soon as possible, until December 31st, 2025), and the salary level follows the 13 TV-L scale (100% FTE). This postdoctoral position is part of a project (in collaboration with the universities of Heidelberg and Würzburg) that is funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research. It is entitled „Worldmaking from a Global Perspective: A Dialogue with China,” and the Göttingen part focuses on „Conceptions of World Order and their Social Carrier Groups“. The job profile includes independent research and some project-related tasks like the coordination of academic evets; teaching responsibilities are optional and not obligatory. There is funding to cover international research trips and other research-related activities.

Application requirements: applicants should have a highly qualified Ph.D in East Asian Studies/Chinese Studies, History or any other relevant field. Their main area of research should cover an aspect of modern China (17th – 21st centuries) and its transnational/global historical entanglements. The candidates should be ready to contribute to already existing research projects and networks; in addition, they should be inclined to participate in the buildup of new ones. They also should have some experience with academic publishing and strong skills in Standard Chinese and English. Individuals with significant international experiences and innovative research projects are particularly encouraged to apply. Moreover, applicants should have already demonstrated excellent skills as students and/or postdoctoral scholars. Applications are highly welcome by candidates who work on aspects of the (historical and/or contemporary) connections between China and other world regions outside of the West (such as the Middle East or South Asia).
