Post-doctoral researcher (f/m/x) Virus-Immunology

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in infectious diseases and immunology.

In 2022 1.3 million people became newly infected with HIV and 630 000 people died of HIV-1/AIDS.  In particular, young women in sub-Saharan Africa are at high risk of acquiring HIV-1. Approximately 1.3 million children are annually born to HIV-1-infected women. The recent global roll-out of antiretroviral treatment (ART) has resulted in a significant reduction in mortality and morbidity resulting from HIV infection, and also a rapid decrease of mother-to-child transmission of HIV-1. However, morbidity and mortality in the HIV-1-infected and exposed populations remain higher. The specific mechanisms by which differences in viral and host factors lead to differential HIV-1 disease outcomes remain unknown. Recent studies have shown that metabolic processes have an important role in shaping antiviral responses, both of the virus-infected cells themselves and of antiviral immune effector cells. Within the recently funded DFG German-African Cooperation Project in Infectiology, ‘Metabolic Determinants of HIV-1-Associated Pathogenesis’, a post-doctoral researcher position is available at the LIV.

in the Research Unit “Virus Immunology” (Head: Prof. Marcus Altfeld) and Associated Group “Immune Ontogeny and Viral Infections”  (Head: Madeleine Bunders).
