Job description:The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) in the Helmholtz Association is an international biomedical research center dedicated to understanding the molecular mechanisms of health and disease with the goal to devise new diagnostics and medicines. The MDC is a member of the Helmholtz Association, Germany's largest scientific organization, and offers an engaging research environment with cutting-edge research infrastructure. Currently, ~1250 employees and ~500 guest scientists work at the Berlin-Buch and Berlin-Mitte campuses. Our diverse workforce is a core strength that inspires creativity and innovation at the MDC.
The MDC is committed to improving human health through transformative biomedical research. Our goal is to pioneer discoveries for preventing, treating, and ultimately curing disease.
Work at the forefront of proteomics applications for drug discovery
Job Description:
A post-doctoral position is available in the research group of Dr. Ilaria Piazza at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association (MDC) in Berlin, Germany. The selected candidate will work in close collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Vicent Pelechano at the Karolinska Institute and the Science for Life Laboratory in Stockholm, Sweden.
We are actively seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with a passion for developing experimental methods to join our team. In this role, you will be involved in a groundbreaking project aimed at studying protein interactions in cells and tissues, making use of the expertise of the Piazza and Pelechano laboratories (see below). With proof-of-concept already established, you will work to refine and optimize the method to achieve broad applicability and high reproducibility. You will have the opportunity to apply this novel approach to explore pressing biomedical questions and leveraging this knowledge to advance treatments for human tumors and immunotherapies.
The Piazza laboratory (Piazza Lab) uses mass spectrometry-based approaches to study protein interactions in cell and tissues with proteomics. The Pelechano laboratory integrates experimental and computational approaches to tackle fundamental biological questions with medical relevance using innovative genome-wide techniques.. You will work on an exciting multidisciplinary project integrating multiomics approaches that aims to understand the crosstalk between RNA and proteins in bulk and at single cell level.
You will have access to state-of-the-art instrumentation including mass spectrometers for single cell proteomics analysis (Bruker TimsTOF SCP) and be involved in international cross-disciplinary collaborations. The successful candidate will take a strong lead in the experimental design and data interpretation in collaboration. If you are a dedicated researcher with a desire to drive innovation in the field, we encourage you to apply for this exciting position.
Requirements:
The candidate should have:
- A PhD in RNA/protein biochemistry, systems biology, molecular biology or equivalent.
- A strong interest in proteomics and quantitative biology.
- At least one of the following backgrounds:
- For proteomics: general knowledge of quantitative proteomics data acquisition with TOF or Orbitrap MS and data analysis with specialized software (ex: MaxQuant, Spectronaut, DIA-NN).
- For genomics: knowledge of NGS library generation, single-cell approaches (e.g., RNA-Seq, ATAC…) and NGS data analysis.
- Curiosity and motivation in learning the complementary -omics approach (e.g: a candidate with a PhD in genomics should be eager to use proteomics strategies or viceversa).
- Preferred experience includes familiarity with flow cytometry, or another cell sorting approach.
- Previous experience with work with human cancer cell lines, stem cells, and/or immunohistochemistry is a plus.
- Programming skills with Python or R is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and in teams. Excellent communication skills.
- A solid experimental or computational background, a strong publication record as primary author, and excellent communication skills in English.
A strong interest in interdisciplinary research and integration of single cell genomics and proteomics concepts are the requisite skills for this position.
Enquiries about the position should be addressed [email protected] . The starting dates for the positions are negotiable. For applying send a CV and a motivation letter to: [email protected]
Benefits:
- international working environment with communication in English and German
- interesting career opportunities and a range of opportunities for further qualification and training
- Compatibility of family and career certified by the workandfamily audit (“berufundfamilie audit”)
- Support for "New Berliners" through the MDC Welcome & Family Office
- On-campus health and fitness center
You also benefit from:
- a remuneration in accordance with the collective agreement for the federal public service (TVöD-Bund), including additional company pension schemes
- flexible working hours and childcare support
- an idyllic green campus, which is easily accessible by bicycle, public transport or car
- a secure job
- Subsidy for the job ticket as well as discounts in the campus canteen
- additional health benefits such as flu vaccination, eye test, ergonomics advice at the workplace
- the possibility of mobile working
- free use of Nextbike from the Buch S-Bahn station to the campus
