For over 200 years the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (SGN) represents one of the most relevant institutions investigating nature and its diversity. Currently, scientists from more than 40 countries across 11 locations in Germany conduct research in the fields of biodiversity, earth system analysis and climate change. The institute Senckenberg am Meer with the departments Marine Research and German Centre of Marine Biodiversity Research (DZMB) are located in Wilhelmshaven and are the northernmost locations of our association. Since decades, both departments have been part of national and international cooperation in marine research. The Marine Biology working group is studying the benthic ecology in the North Sea and is continuing Senckenberg´s LTER North Sea Benthos Observatory.

For the project CONMAR-Habitat „Spatio-temporal variability of benthic communities and environmental parameters in munition sink areas and reference sites in the North and Baltic Sea”, being part of the DAM joint research project “CONcepts for conventional MArine Munition Remediation in the German North and Baltic Sea (CONMAR)” and located at our Institute ‘Senckenberg am Meer’ in Wilhelmshaven, we invite applications for a

Post-Doc Position (m/f/d)

Your tasks:

  • Participation in several 2 week sampling cruises per year
  • Taxonomic identification of marine benthic in- and epifauna species
  • Multivariate statistical data analyses
  • Georeferencing analyses of data using GIS
  • Species distribution modelling
  • Project reports and scientific publications

Your profile:

  • PhD in marine biology or natural science
  • Expertise in taxonomy of North Sea benthic in- and epifauna
  • Expertise in multivariate statistical analyses and GIS
  • Expertise in species distribution modelling
  • Expertise in publication of scientific papers, publication list
  • Expertise in ship board sampling
  • Willingness to work in an interdisciplinary project team
  • Very good command of spoken and written English

Salary and benefits are according to a full-time public service position in Germany (TV-H E 13, 100%). The contract should start as soon as possible - ideally on January 1st, 2022 - and will initially be limited until December 31st, 2024.
