At the Chair of Chemistry of Biogenic Resources at the TUM Campus Straubing for Biotechnology and Sustainability we are looking for a PostDoc (f/m/d) for functional biohybrid materials to participate in the EU funded PERFECOAT project. The primary objective of PERFECOAT is to develop a new generation of industrial wood coatings and decorative coatings with more than 25% bio-based components that meet and even surpass the current quality and sustainability standards. To answer the clear need for innovation and new breakthrough technology in this field, the PERFECOAT consortium will build and operate a modular and flexible technology platform for the production of innovative bio-based binders, fillers and pigments from a range of biopolymers and functionalised materials. The consortium consists of several highly renowned industrial and academic partners. At TUM, functionalised fillers will be developed based on an individual modular approach. Functionality will be introduced to the filler platform through protein-based features. During the PostDoc you are tasked with expanding the platform to target new reactions and functionalities and optimize stability and applicability.

Your job includes
 Identification of suitable reactions and protein-based functions that can be incorporated into the platform
 Enzyme engineering towards more stable functionalities
 Coordination and execution of laboratory works, supervision of students
 Preparation and presentation of project reports, coordination of laboratory works at labs of the industrial partners

Requirements
 High motivation and commitment to scientific excellence
 Successful PhD with publication record in areas of microbiology, biotechnology, chemistry, material science or related fields
 Excellent commandment of the English language (both oral and written), German is a plus but not mandatory
 Motivation to work in an international interdisciplinary team of scientists

Tasks will be highly interdisciplinary. For your application, please describe your experience in the following scientific fields:
 DNA recombination technology, protein purification, enzyme characterisation, immobilization techniques
 Metabolic engineering,
 Organic synthesis, preparation and characterisation of polymeric and/or composite materials

We offer a 3-years contract based on a competitive salary and benefits package in accordance with the public service wage agreement (TV-L E13). As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, TUM explicitly encourages applications from women as well as from all others who would bring additional diversity dimensions to the university’s research and teaching strategies. Preference will be given to disabled candidates with essentially the same qualifications.

Application
Please send your application documents including an overview over your scientific experience and publication list as well as contact details for references via e-mail until 15th August with the subject PERFECOAT 3 to: [email protected]
